MAQUIGNAZ

GABRIELE

Gabriele Maquignaz was born in Aosta in 1972.

From an early age, he displayed a highly creative nature, and throughout his journey, he has combined a strong connection to his Alpine homeland and the Matterhorn with an interest and curiosity that transcend borders. Gabriele is a researcher fascinated by the possibility of expressing the spiritual dimension of existence through art.

As a young man, he became a ski instructor and developed various hospitality businesses managed by his family, but his path was already set toward the world of art. He trained with a solid foundation in Arte Povera and rooted his artistic inspiration in African, Oceanic, and Pop Art, as well as in the works of great 20th-century masters, with particular attention to Picasso, Giacometti, and Matisse, up to Basquiat and Schnabel.

Gabriele’s eclecticism and versatility lead him to explore painting, sculpture, mixed media, conceptual art, and design, expressed through his jewelry, clothing, and furniture pieces. He participates in various exhibitions, both collective and solo, and, following in the footsteps of Spatialism, he has developed an innovative vision of the third dimension in art—one that is spiritual and transcendent, beyond space and time.

He translates this vision into his art through his "doors" and creates an elliptical cut in the canvas, always in new and innovative ways. His sister, Marie Ange, paints like their father, Aimé, confirming the family's deep artistic and creative vein.

Gabriele’s works are acquired by Italian and international collectors, and visiting his atelier at the foot of the Matterhorn is an experience of great intensity. Many art critics and industry journalists have written about him, including Philippe Daverio, Maurizia Tazartes, Gabriele Accornero, Vittorio Sgarbi, and Salvo Nugnes.
